November 2017 – Hearing Loss Solutions For Airplane Travel

Accessibility Issues & Solutions for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing

When Traveling by Commercial Airlines

Come learn what accessibilities are available to you when traveling by commercial airline as a person who is deaf or hard-of-hearing from our speaker, Mr. Lawrence Rolon – ADA Coordinator for the Office of Disability Services – Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA). He will provide an overview of air travel as it impacts persons who may be reluctant to fly, as well as information on services available at the airport, and traveler’s rights under the Air Carrier Access Act. Mr. Rolon works with airline partners on disability related issues that impact the entire airport community and works with airlines to address and resolve traveler complaints received by the disability office. He works with disability communities to identify ways of improving access, public education about available services, disabled air traveler rights, addressing public concerns about accessibility and air travel. Most recently Mr. Rolon worked with the autism community and airline partners on ways to make air travel less stressful for families with autism. He developed the Autism Self-Identification Program along with families with autism, airlines, and airport police; to defuse potential incidents when a person with autism is experiencing a breakdown.
